Psychology

Emotional support and confidential career guidance to take care of your mental health at every stage of your career.

At the University of the Armed Forces ESPE, we maintain the concept of inclusion in each of the aspects related to higher education. Within this vision, we understand mental health as the mainstay in the development of a University for all. Under these principles, the University Welfare Unit of the ESPE (UBUN), has professionals in the area of Clinical Psychology, General Psychology and Educational Psychology, to serve the university community with processes of Promotion, Prevention and Care of the mental health of students, teachers, administrators and workers, in everything that may involve their mental health.

The different specialties in the area of psychology at UBUN allow us to carry out approaches focused on effectiveness, as long as this is reflected in the functional productivity of our community. We treat cases, within the clinic, of depression, anxiety, personality disorders, attention deficit disorder (ADHD), among others. With regard to education, we carry out approaches to special educational needs (SEN), vocational guidance processes, learning problems, educational monitoring, etc.

"A healthy subject is one who has the ability to love and work"

Psychological Care

Within the psychology area of the University Welfare Unit (UBUN) of the ESPE, the processes that require clinical mental health are addressed by certified mental health professionals. From two theoretical-scientific visions such as psychodynamics and cognitive behavioral vision, our professionals have an impact on emotional, cognitive and behavioral areas of users in the University community who require the care service.

The clinical psychology service of the UBUN attends to cases of:

For specific cases, our professional clinical psychologists work closely with different public psychiatric entities to make referrals, if necessary.

The service is FREE for the entire university community: students, teachers, administrators and work code staff. Under the ethics and deontology of psychology, each case treated enjoys professional confidentiality, therefore, our users of the service can rest assured that all information remains in this principle. On the other hand, we respect the right of each user to initiate or suspend the process as they see fit with their pace of action, therefore there is no obligation of attention for anyone.

Mental Health

Depending on the areas of action, mental health promotion and prevention campaigns are carried out on issues concerning:

Area of Educational Psychology (SEN Follow-up)

The area of general and educational psychology of the University Welfare Unit (UBUN) is based on the attention and monitoring of those processes that may constitute a barrier to the continuity in the academic process of the students of the University of the Armed Forces ESPE.

We understand that these possible barriers can be physical, functional, cognitive, emotional, among others. For this reason, at UBUN we try to understand the human being within the biological, psychological, social and even spiritual aspects, because with this integral concept, we carry out approaches aimed at proposing an inclusive cultural experience with a UNIVERSITY FOR ALL.

With the aforementioned cross-cutting principles, we believe that thinking about inclusion is rethinking education. This reconception leans towards the vision of opting for a look at diversity as an inherent part of the human being, embracing differences and celebrating equity in all fields: sexual affective, language, ethnicity, intelligence, mobility, relationship (bullying), specific learning difficulties, socioeconomic condition, etc.

"We believe that thinking about inclusion is rethinking education"

Processes

Curricular Adaptations

Every process is subject to the decision of each student to express or not his or her desire to be attended to in his or her need for special education. This is due to the right to confidentiality that assists us as free human beings.

In cases where curricular adaptations are required, the student must present his or her evaluation analysis of the condition of need, prepared by an accredited institution. Supporting medical documents (if necessary) and condition qualifications (card) must be attached to this document.

Once the student has completed all the required documentation and it has been duly verified, one of our psychologists will activate the academic pedagogical follow-up process by informing each of the teachers about the student’s condition and attaching the curricular adaptations, if necessary.

Psychopedagogical follow-up

Our educational psychologists permanently monitor the cases in which this need has been reported. Such monitoring consists of the collection of information on the approach of teachers in their respective subjects. In addition, the analysis in those circumstances in which the conditions merit a mediation approach between teachers and students.

Courses and workshops

In order to carry out prevention and promotion actions, our psychologists constantly prepare events in which teachers, students and the university community are trained in the concept of a University for all. Among the macro topics addressed are: learning techniques, development of adaptations, educational inclusion, etc.

Vocational Guidance

At the University of the Armed Forces ESPE, we believe that educational quality is based on the care directed towards our students, from their beginnings to the completion of their studies. Various studies show that two factors, among others, are preponderant for higher education students to successfully complete their university life: (1) Perseverance and, (2) Career choice.

About perseverance, we can say that it refers to the internal volitional processes to conclude with personal purposes. However, it can be considered that it is an internal factor inherent in the formation of personality. That is, those who present a high perseverance, do so from their social construction developed in all the years of their life and not because of a matter of emotional decision of the moment.

Regarding the choice of career, on the other hand, it is seen as a process where genetic, social, family, psychological and emotional factors intervene; The preferences are limited to the five aspects mentioned. Those students who come to the University Welfare Unit to require an Orientation process are approached from a systemic vision through the different psychometric instruments to achieve functional counseling for our students.

At UBUN, we attend to cases of Vocational Guidance, when a student requires it to ratify their choice of career, or when they wish to change careers and must submit a reasoned vocational guidance report to the new choice as a requirement of the process.

For cases in which a student requires a vocational process, it must be taken into account that it is a FREE process and they only have to approach the University Welfare Unit and schedule their appointment with one of our psychologists.
