Sustainability, Safety and Risk Unit

Through Resolution ESPE-HCU-RES-2026-069 of June 17, 2026, the Sustainability, Security and Risk Unit of the University of the Armed Forces ESPE is created, which is composed of the following collaborators:

Sustainability Committee

The Sustainability Committee is responsible for establishing policies for the implementation of sustainable initiatives or projects. The Commission is made up of the following Authorities:

Institutional Policy for Sustainability and Environmental Management

The University of the Armed Forces – ESPE, in accordance with the exercise of responsible autonomy, under the criterion of proactive responsibility, oriented to sustainability, innovation, anticipatory governance and strengthening of a green university model, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), applying environmental criteria in all its processes, through the establishment of plans, Programs and projects, with the aim of preventing environmental pollution, managing risks, adapting to climate change and mitigating its effects, in order to execute due diligence of the applicable environmental regulations, and continuous improvement, presents its environmental policy.

The University recognizes that sustainability is a permanent constitutional responsibility and a cross-cutting component of academic, administrative, research, technological and societal management; aimed at guaranteeing the right of present and future generations to develop in a healthy, ecologically balanced and sustainable environment.

This policy will be complied with under the principles of constitutionality, proactive responsibility, sustainability, innovation and anticipatory governance; oriented to the following main axes, with a specific, but not exclusive, character:

  1. Infrastructure
    The adaptation of current and future infrastructure is promoted under the standards and guidelines of sustainable and intelligent spaces.
  2. Energy management and climate change
    It promotes the reduction of the carbon footprint, increases institutional energy efficiency and promotes the use of renewable energy sources.
  3. Waste and circular economy
    Recycling, recovery, reuse, reduction and revaluation of waste are promoted, promoting the circular economy.
  4. Sustainable water management
    Efficiency in the treatment and use of drinking water and wastewater is optimized.
  5. Sustainable mobility
    The use of public transport, the use of shared vehicles and active mobility (pedestrian/bicycle) are encouraged.
  6. Environmental Teaching and Training
    The sustainability approach is institutionalized in the University’s careers and programs.
  7. Research and linkage
    The execution of research projects and links with society with an emphasis on sustainability is promoted.
  8. Green Shopping
    Environmental criteria are integrated into the acquisition of goods and services by the University.
  9. Governance and digitalisation
    The comprehensive management of sustainability in the Institution is promoted, with emphasis on the incorporation of emerging and disruptive technologies.

This policy extends and is articulated at all levels of government and management of the University, so it is mandatory and essential for any institutional process or project and must be verified in the formulation of any project.
